Columbia University TeenScreen Program The Columbia University TeenScreen Program is a national initiative that strives to provide mental health interventions for young people across America through voluntary screening. I intern there over the summer; it has been a truly invaluable experience. TeenScreen has been a great resource throughout the process of starting this site and has always supported me in my endeavors. The program functions by using mental health screening devices in youth clinics, schools, and the like, to pinpoint youth at risk for mental illness. Studies have shown that this approach works - Wouldn't you have jumped at the chance to admit that you are having problems and needed help in a fairly anonymous and low-pressure setting?
Suffolk County Response Suffolk County Response is a truly ingenious program. It is based out of Suffolk County in New York and is therefore unfortunately limited in its area of service. I first connected with Response following a NAMI Walk. The organization has helped me be better prepared for certain situations that may arise as the site expands. Response is a service which offers both a hotline and an live online chat with counselors. It is a model program that can and should be instituted in communities across the nation (as well as across the globe!).
MoodGarden.org Mood Garden is a site very similar to Out of the Silence that is targeted more toward adults. Its founder has collaborated with me on numerous occasions, helping me through the steps of starting both a website and organization. Mood Garden offers forums and live chat among its many services.
Panic Relief Inc. Panic Relief Inc. is a New Jersey-based organization that offers support for people with panic and anxiety in the area, and more recently across the nation.
ADHD Mood and Behavior Center The ADHD Mood and Behavior Center is where I go for treatment. Without the help of the center, I would have no free time, and this site would therefore not exist. If you live in New Jersey, I would highly recommend visiting the center for treatment.
